Happy Pride! It seems like more and more corporations are hopping on the rainbow train. It is frustrating that so many corporations are profiting from a cause with such a dark history. It remains my opinion that unless a brand donates 100% of their profit (I see you, Marc Jacobs, and I love it) of their “pride” branded product, it shows that their intentions are solely profit based.
So instead, I have carefully selected cute items to wear to pride- and each item corresponds to a charity or organization supporting LGBTQ+ rights to donate too. Yes, corporations should walk the walk and take a stand, but we can't blame corporations for being corporations. So, do your part! If you're shopping around for pride items or see something below that catches your eye, donate to one of the organizations I have listed before. After all, if you have money for a pride tee, you should have money to donate as well. 🤷🏼♀️
If money is tight all around and you can’t do either, I have also listed some organizations that are ALWAYS looking for volunteers, because nothing is more valuable than your time.
AMERICAN APPAREL X LOS ANGELES LGBT CENTER
First up, here is the American Apparel “How We Love” capsule collection. 100% of the profits from this capsule will be donated to the Los Angeles LGBT Center. American Apparel is known to for their continuous support of LGBTQ+, and that is something to support.
I HEART RAVES X IT GETS BETTER
If you're more of a rave pride person, I've picked out pasties just for you. Take it a step further and donate to It Gets Better, which is a nonprofit that empowers and uplifts LGBTQ youth.
REVOLVE X TREVOR PROJECT
Pride, but make it fashion? If you're not into tees and sneakers and have something more brunch-y planned, I got you. I have paired Revolve up with the Trevor Project, which is “the leading national organization providing crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to LGBTQ young people under 25”
STELLA MCCARTNEY X PRIDE FUND TO END GUN VIOLENCE
These sneakers were made for pride, but you know what’s even better? The Pride Fund to End Gun Violence, which is a PAC that supports candidates that are pro-gun reform and have committed to ensuring LGBTQ safety.
NASTY GAL X NATIONAL CENTER FOR TRANSGENDER EQUALITY
Nasty Gal is my go to for fast fashion (we’re all guilty of it, so don’t even try to bash me), but they don’t really actively donate their proceeds. The National Center for Transgender Equality is much more helpful, and works at a local, state, and federal level to advance transgender equality.
Many of these organizations have local chapters with which you can become involved.
